Three Years of Teaching.
One Focus: Making It Click.

Hi, I'm Shen 👋, a medical student and a graduate of Sydney Technical High School. In my HSC I scored an ATAR of 99.25, with 96 in both Mathematics Extension 1 and Extension 2, placing 1st in Extension 2 and in the top 5 in Extension 1.

I've been teaching for over three years, mainly at Dr. Du Education, one of Sydney's most respected tutoring companies. In that time I've delivered 20+ classes to over 300 students across high school year levels. I know the NSW syllabus inside out, and I know what it actually takes to move a student's mark.

I don't believe any student is simply "bad at maths", only that it's often taught in a way that never quite clicks. My job is to change that.

A Program That Bends to Every Student.

Every lesson and every resource is tailored to the student and the pace they want to learn at, with flexibility in what we cover.

🚀

Accelerate

I cover the content several weeks before school does, so when it comes up in class, it's already familiar. This turns school into a form of consolidation, letting my students move ahead with a deeper understanding.

🏫

Match the School's Pace

We can move in step with what the student is learning in class each week, so every lesson consolidates school content while it's still fresh.

🔁

Rebuild

If something from school isn't clicking, whether the student can't do the homework or there's a gap from earlier that's holding them back, we go back and rebuild it properly, then move forward from there.

Subjects & Year Levels

NSW curriculum, Years 7 to 12, from foundational maths through to HSC Advanced and Extension 1.

Algebra and linear equations, ratios, rates and proportion, indices, congruent figures, area and volume, and probability, all building the fluency senior maths leans on.

9

Year 9 Mathematics

Algebraic techniques, indices and surds, linear and non-linear relationships, geometry, Pythagoras and trigonometry, statistics, and financial maths, the building blocks for everything that follows.

10

Year 10 Mathematics

Surds and indices, quadratics, simultaneous equations, trigonometry, surface area and volume, probability, and more, consolidating core skills for the step up into senior maths.

11

Year 11 Mathematics

Standard, Advanced & Extension 1. Functions, trigonometric functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, financial maths, statistical analysis, and a solid calculus foundation, and more.

12

Year 12 Mathematics

Standard, Advanced & Extension 1. Differential and integral calculus, trigonometric functions, financial maths, statistical distributions, vectors, proof, and more, with targeted HSC exam technique throughout.

Everything Planned.
Yet Extremely Flexible.

I've already built a complete set of high-quality teaching materials for every year level, aligned to the textbooks schools actually use and built around past exam papers. The 35 weeks of Year 9 materials are one example.

But none of it is fixed. If a student or their school wants to focus on a particular topic, I adapt the materials around it, teaching exactly what's needed in the way that works best for that student. The structure is there when a student wants it, and flexible the moment they don't.

Common Questions

Anything else? Just ask via the form below.

What does a typical lesson look like?

We start by going through the student's homework and any questions from school, then move into new content: I explain the concept, we work through examples together, and the student tackles a set of questions ordered from easy to hard. Each session ends with targeted homework for the week.

What does it cost, and is the first lesson really free?

Rates depend on year level: $60/hr for Years 7–8, $70/hr for Years 9–10, and $80/hr for Years 11–12 — always one-on-one. The first lesson is completely free: a full session, not a demo, so you can see exactly how I teach before committing to anything. No pressure, no obligation.

How long is a lesson?

Lesson length scales with year level: 1 hour for Years 7–8, 1.5 hours for Years 9–10, and 2 hours for Years 11–12.

Where do lessons happen?

In person at my home or yours, approximately a 15-minute drive from Hurstville. If you're further out, you're welcome to come to me, or we can run lessons online instead.

How do online lessons work?

Over Zoom, anywhere in NSW (using the NSW syllabus). Online lessons follow exactly the same structure as in-person ones: same program, same worked examples, same weekly homework.

Do lessons follow the school's pace?

It's completely tailored to the student. We can accelerate ahead of the school's pace to build understanding early, move in step with class to consolidate, or go back and review earlier material the student is struggling with — and I shift focus when their assessments and exams come up.
